My name is Katie Thomas and I am incredibly excited to be a part of the AVCS family as the middle school social studies teacher.
After graduating from the University of Central Florida with my bachelor’s degree in history, I spent two year on staff with a campus ministry before becoming a teacher in 2011. In addition to my California Single Subject Credential in Social Studies, I hold a Florida certificate in Social Science (grades 6-12), Middle Grade Integrated Curriculum (grades 5-9), and a gifted endorsement. I am also working to obtain my master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of West Florida.
I have been married to my wonderful husband, Bryan, since 2014 and we just welcomed our daughter, Amelia, in November 2019. My family and I just recently moved to Irvine from Jacksonville, Florida and have already fallen in love with southern California. In my free time I love traveling, drinking iced coffee, being outdoors, and watching football.
My philosophy as an educator is rooted in the belief that you have never locked eyes with someone who does not matter to God- I believe every student matters. It is my goal to foster a desire to be a life-long learner and to prepare my students to be analytical thinkers and engaged and responsible citizens. It is my hope and goal as an educator to address the needs of the whole student- mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual and I am excited to make an impact at AVCS.
