¡Hola y bienvenidos! My name is Samantha Graf and this is my first year at AVCS. I am so excited to be teaching Middle School Spanish and Middle School Study Skills. I have been speaking Spanish since I was 9 years old when my mom put me in an after-school Spanish program. From there, I continued my Spanish education through Middle School, High School, and into college. My love for the language was fostered during Middle School with my 7th grade Spanish teacher. I wanted to be a Spanish teacher just like her when I grew up!

I graduated from the University of Southern California with my B.A. in Spanish and I am currently finishing my California Single Subject Credential in Spanish at California State University, Long Beach. I am a believer that all students can learn a second (or third!) language if they are immersed in the language in the classroom. I teach based on a communicative approach rather than a grammar-based approach, focusing on language acquisition and language usage. My goal is that my students will be able to manipulate the Spanish language to communicate their thoughts, emotions, actions, etc. I do not promise that my students will be fluent after a year in my classroom, but I do promise that they will learn basic fundamentals of the language! (and have fun while doing it)

I am a Southern California native, born and raised in San Clemente. I love spending my free time at the beach, reading, and cooking! I met my husband, Kevin, while at USC and he currently plays professional football in the NFL. Our life is far from boring and I thank our Lord every day for the blessings He has given to us! God has been faithful through every stage of life and my husband and I live by Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I am so blessed to be a part of the AVCS team and look forward to meeting all of you!

May the Lord bless you and make His face shine upon you,
Samantha Graf
