Getting to know Mrs. Van Echten

Dear AVCS Parents and Students,

Welcome back to school! I am really looking forward to another school year with my new class of fifth graders.

My name is Lea Van Echten. I am one of the 5th grade teachers at this wonderful school.
This is my sixteenth year of teaching. I have taught in a private all girls school in Long Beach for five years. I have also taught in the Santa Ana Unified School District for five years. This is my sixth year teaching at AVCS.

I have been married to my husband, Harry, for sixteen years. We have two beautiful boys. This year I have two middle schoolers in my family. Harrison will be in eighth grade and Hayden will be in sixth grade.

I love to travel and experience new adventures.  I enjoy online scrapbooking, going to the movies, the beach, and spending time with friends and family. I enjoy my children. I love to watch them play and listen to them speak. They ask the most interesting questions especially as middle schoolers.

Last year was so amazing! God made fifth grade so special. He filled it with wonderful memories, many educational experiences and unforgettable teachable moments and conversations. Once again I welcome His blessings for another wonderful
year.

God is so good! He answered my prayer for a new teaching partner. I welcome my new partner, Lyndsey Kuehn, with open arms.  We have been working diligently together throughout the summer. I look forward to working as a team to promote a strong, spiritual, and academically-enriched fifth grade experience for your child.

I will definitely miss Mrs. Hewitt. She was a joy to work with and I wish her all the best in first grade. Those little first graders will love her.

My goals for my fifth graders are to help them to continue to practice taking responsibility for themselves, their actions and their materials (assignments, homework, etc.) and to stay organized. We will be focusing on building a mature relationship with Jesus. We naturally begin to define our faith in Him and how it will guide us this year and as we journey into middle school.
It’s going to be a great year!

Thank you for your kindness and support this year.

Blessings,
Mrs. Van Echten
