Getting to know Ms. Wolters

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the “Lighthouse”, aka Room 3 or the all blue Kindergarten at AVCS.  My name is Kellie Wolters, and I’m a returning teacher to AVCS, having previously taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 7th grade Life Science.  I have also taught Preschool and Special Education as an Elementary School Resource Specialist in the Capistrano Unified School District.  I think it’s important to share that I’m thrilled, as a long standing wish is being fulfilled this year:  I’m going back to Kindergarten!  It’s my privilege to be teaming up with Gail Mattson, a dear friend, and respected educator, in her 12th year as the other Kindergarten teacher at AVCS.  In addition to having taught at AVCS in the past, my two daughters, now a Junior and Senior in High School, both attended AVCS – so, I’m home again and very much looking forward to a great year!

As a parent, I’ve always wanted to know the background of my children’s teachers.  With that in mind, I received a B.S. degree in Child and Adolescent Studies and a Multiple Subject teaching credential.  I also hold a Special Education teaching credential and a Master’s degree in Special Education, all from CSUF.

This year your children will begin their journey through elementary school, and I am blessed to serve as their first stepping stone.  Each day I will be encouraging your children to do their best and make choices that reflect their faith and love for the Lord and respect for one another.  Going through school, I was a student musician (violin and flute) and student athlete (swimmer); today, I’m probably more active than musical with my time.  More relevant to my role at AVCS, I love learning and hope to instill this passion in your children by engaging them in a positive and interactive environment. 

We are committed to teaching the California State Content Standards.  With that as a foundation, we have incorporated significant additional material and enrichment activities while retaining the flexibility to meet the needs of all learners to ensure both your children’s academic success as well as his/her healthy development in general.  As an educator, I take great pride in using all sorts of creative approaches to reward good and appropriate behavior and to encourage your children academically, socially, and spiritually.   I’m committed to be the best role model I can be for your children as I recognize that nothing is more valuable to you.
