Greetings in Christ and blessings to you. Following are some special announcements, the weekly lessons, and a list of upcoming events from Lutheran Church of the Cross. Attached are our weekly devotionals and a message from the pastors. Please contact the church office at 949-837-4673 if you have specific prayer requests or a special need to speak with a pastor.
Choose Jesus
As we enter into the season of Lent let us be reminded that it is all about Jesus and our need to draw close to Him every day. But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing, You may have life in His name. John 20:13
How many choices do you make a day? Many! Words, actions – inactions, positive, negative, eat, sleep, exercise, moods, etc…. Just think about all those decisions. Now ask yourself, “How do we make our decisions? What do we base them on?”
We want to choose God’s will. If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. John 7:17
During the season of Lent, I encourage us to do a little self-analysis and see if our decisions are because of something we want or if it is something that God would want for us. When we desire to choose God’s will, we can use this recipe and see if these things will apply to our choices…
- Choose Jesus – Is Jesus number one in your life? Or, do other things seem to take first place… such as worship attendance, Bible Study and reading, devotions, etc.
- Surrender - Listening to His authority and listen to others in authority - parents, teachers, pastors, and meditate on their advice.
- Look to God’s Word – make sure that the advice is lined up with God’s Word – meditate on God’s Word daily
- Pray – Pray on a regular basis throughout the day… Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
- The results of a choosing Jesus and drawing closer to Him…
- The closer you walk with the Lord, the more likely you are to know what He wants for you.
Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him. John 7:38
The season of Lent is a journey for all of us to draw closer to Jesus and to choose Him every day. … It is the best choice we can make!
