Pastoral Intern - Ken Whitney

 

Ken was hired on staff as a pastoral intern in January 2011.  Ken and Tracy have been members of LCC since June of 2000.  Over those 11 years spent among the LCC family, Ken had been called to participate in men’s ministry.  The Lord put on his heart to be engaged in developing vital relationships with all men in order to help one another become the men, husbands and fathers that God created them to be.  This group has become more than a bible study or ‘accountability group’ – The men’s promise keepers at LCC is a band of brothers.

Ken’s role as pastoral intern is to ‘help’ in any capacity needed.  He is on the preaching schedule for both Laguna Woods and Aliso Viejo campuses.  Both Ken and Tracy will be teaching a parenting class after Sunday service at Aliso Viejo…a favorite quote of the couple is this: “A friendship is born when one person says to another; ‘you’ve felt that way too? I thought I was the only one!”  Parenting classes are the type of venue where great friendships are born!

Ken grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area in a little town called Moraga.  Family vacations involved camping in the Sierra Nevada’s or at the Family ranch in Northern California.  Ken Graduated from C.S.U.Chico in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts-Liberal Studies.  His work experience includes: Industrial/Commercial manufacturing Sales [Johns Manville] Logistics Sales [Roadway Express] and Real Estate Sales as an independent sales agent.  Currently, Ken is working towards a M. Div. and subsequent ordination as a LCMC Pastor.

Tracy grew up in Mission Viejo and graduated from C.S.U. Chico in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science-Computer Science.  Tracy has been employed as a Senior Programmer Analyst in the Aerospace industry for 13 years.  Her passion is for the family and for families suffering through the trials of caring for terminally ill children.

Tracy and Ken have been married for 18 years and live in Lake Forest, CA. They are the proud parents of three handsome sons: John (15), Graham 12 (In Heaven) and David (5). John is a graduate of AVCS and is a freshman at Crean Lutheran High School.  David is a Kindergartener at AVCS.  Graham passed away from complications associated with an orphan disease: Infantile Refsum’s Disease [a peroxisomal Biogenesis Disorder] God used Graham powerfully [and continues to this day] as a witness of HIS love, Grace and Mercy!  Ken often says: ‘If God can use a goof like me powerfully and get us through a terrible trial with resulting joy for the blessed assurance of an eternity spent in heaven, just think what he can do with you!”

Ken and Tracy are passionate advocates for parents of terminally ill kiddos.  They are starting a foundation to help parents pay for some or all of the expense of a grave marker [FB Mark of an Angel] ‘This ministry is straight from Tracy’s heart and is serving to not only comfort and encourage these heroic families, but it is like a soothing balm for our own broken hearts… helping others gives us meaning to the season we experienced with Graham.’
